workshop
Working from a small but well equipped workshop in the Derbyshire Peak District Andrew Skelton and Tony Maj design and produce a wide variety of furniture from domestic items to large public commissions. Many of the projects include casting and other services which are contracted out to specialist suppliers although the design and quality control remain in house.

Andrew Skelton Furniture have a commitment to the environment, select materials with careful consideration and only use timber from sustainable sources.

commissioning
Much of the work is designed and made to commission and thus responds to particular needs and specific locations. Working in close consultation with individual clients or groups designs are developed through drawings, models and full size mock-ups to provide sensitive, relevant and innovative solutions.
Please contact Andrew if you would like to discuss a project.

andrew skelton
Having studied architecture in the late 1970s Andrew was drawn to the physical reality of furniture making and set up his first workshop in 1982. Although grounded in wood and drawing strongly on its traditions he uses a wide variety of materials, textures and colours in his work. His innovative and careful design, high level of craft skills and sensitive use of materials have won him a number of significant commissions and opportunities to exhibit.

Andrew's designs for public seating show a concern with issues of disabled access and inclusive design which he has furthered through research at Sheffield Hallam University.

Andrew was elected FSDC (Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen) in 2004

Between 1999 and 2004 Andrew was part time course leader of BA Hons Applied Furniture Studies at New College Nottingham. He sees teaching and the development of both craft and academic skills as an important part of his practice and has published articles on furniture design and making.
